WEST TRIPURA DISTRICT POLICE

General Information

  West Tripura District is the largest District of the State. The West Tripura District bordered by Bangladesh in the North and West, by the Dhalai District in the east and by the South District by the South side. The District head-quarters is located at Agartala which is also the capital of the state.

Communication

Agartala is connected with Kolkata by the Indian Airlines Services. The Airport is about 10 Kms away from the city. The nearest Railway head is Dharmanagar on North-East Railway which is about 200 kms. away from Agartala. The district headquarter is connected by regular bus services with other three districts of the State as well as other important cities such as Kolkata, Dharmanagar, Guwahati, Silcha, Kohima etc.

Tourism

Important tourist centers in the West Tripura district are: Ujjayanta Palace, Kunjaban Palace, Jagannath temple, Laxmi Narayan Temple, Uma Maheswari Temple, Benuban Vihar, Maharaja Bir Bikram College, State Museum, Rabindra Kanan (all at Agartala), 14-goddess Temple at Old Agartala, Brahmakunda, Kamala Sagar, Sepahijala Wild-life Sanctuary and Neermahal at Melagarh.

About Us

The West Tripura District comprises four revenue Sub-Divisions, viz. Sadar, Khowai, Bishalgarh and Sonamura. There were 5(five) Police Sub-Divisions till 1997 namely Central, Sadar, Bishalgarh, Sonamura and Khowai. In the year 1997, a new Sub-Division namely Teliamura was created. In the year 2001,two new Police Station namely Srinagar and Champahour were opened. In year 2001 a new police Sub-Division Jirania comprising Jirania Police Station and Srinagar Police Station was also opened.

Shri P. Bawa, IPS, was the first Superintendent of Police of West Tripura District. Present occupant Rajesh Kamble, IPS, is the 23^st Superintendent of Police of the District and holding this post since 03.06.2000.

At present the West Tripura District consist of 7 (seven) Police Divisions, 22 Police Stations and 8 functional Out Posts.
