POLICE COMMUNICATION
Wireless communication has come a long
way since its demonstration in the year 1901 when the Italian scientist Guglielmo Marconi
spanned the Atlantic ocean with radio waves for the first time. Introduction of wireless
communication into the police force in the mid 20th century contributed not
only to the maximum utilisation of the presently available forces but also to their
working efficiency resulting rapid changes in police network. This type of communication
touched this state in the year 1949.
We are entrusted with the following tasks:
- To connect the operational parties in the field with the higher formations for a more
coordinated and cohesive anti-insurgency exercises;
- To improve upon the existing infrastructure of Wireless network;
- To update and modernize the wireless equipments including HF, VHF, Semi-Duplex and
Automatic Message Switching System (for digital data communication);
- To cover the entire State with a single band within a single network.
The police wireless networks are so designed that those can survive
even the worst of situations both natural calamities and man made once when all other
modes of communications fail , the Police wireless will continue helping.
Even though modern communication networks have been established in the
police wireless namely AMSS, pocket radio etc, Morse code is still retained considering
its high reliability, transportability and easy insatiability, especially in view of
unforeseen circumstances.
The strength of mobile communication in police wireless using battery
operated VHF sets has proved beyond expectation. The establishment of hill top repeater
stations, conceived and designed by the state police radio organisation as local
renovation , has extended its domain all over the state.
To modernize Tripura Police Communication
Organisation the Government of India has provided a large
number of wireless equipment as central assistance with
the Government of Tripura releasing matching grants under
state plan. Tripura Police Radio Organisation has gained
a lot from the above assistances. Initially the equipment
and manpower were provided by Central Government at the
time of setting-up of this organisation. HF sets were deployed
for communication to the selected locations. Thereafter,
VHF communication came into existence for smooth and speedy
voice communication, which was expanded time to time to
the entire state. As per the demand of modern era data communication
was introduced and significant development in deployment
of computers and other modern gadgets were achieved.
In 1990 Automatic Communication System (ACS computerised data
communication) was introduced for faster and speedy point-to-point data communication with
District HQrs and a few stations of the West District. In 1992 Automatic Message Switching
System, an upgraded version of ACS was installed to facilitate better and speedy data
communication with all district HQrs, Sub-divisional HQrs along with most of the out lying
stations of Tripura. In the year 1997 Radio Trunking System was established for better
voice communication for the mobiles as well as with a few static stations.
