MODERNISATION   

      Due to the hard work of the different units of Tripura Police, Tripura Police have been able to achieve remarkable improvements in the Crime and insurgency situation in the State. This has been widely acknowledged. Tripura Police have taken certain important steps to help the units in achieving their objectives. Some of them, if not all, are listed below:

      Training is the principal tool of human resource development, which is essential to the achievements of objectives by any organization. Therefore, attaching priority to training a very large number of officers are trained at the Police training College in in-service courses of various types. Between 2000 and 2001, 2741 numbers of Police personnel  received their in-service and re-fresher training to improve their awareness and professional skills. For carrying out specialized and specific Job oriented training at different units, Tripura Police are in the process of procuring several training equipments and gadgets. This includes four L.C.D. Projectors for projecting computer and video on screen.

     The opening of the Jungle Warfare & Counter Insurgency School at Kachucherra by the Tripura State rifle is going to be important not only for the TSR boys’ training, but also for reorienting other Tripura Policemen and Officers. The Police Training College is going to have an Officers’ Training Hostel, Air Conditioned Lecture Theatre and a Computer Training Centre. In addition the Traffic Training centre and C.I.D. Training Centre are also going to be constructed at Police Training College.

      To reinforce the operational strength, the Tripura Police have appointed 840 numbers of Special Police Officers and opened 28 Camps with the help of them. The 9th battalion of the Tripura State Rifle has got a sanction of 5 additional Company for 5 other Tripura State rifle Battalions. The process of recruitment to these battalions has started. As regards Recruitment of Police Constables to strengthen the staff strength at the Police Stations, Tripura Police have already recruited 453 Men & Women Constables who would be completing their training by June 2002. Another batch of recruit constables is being recruited which will be ready by June to start getting trained at the Police Training College after the present batch passes out. Similar recruitment drive is on for Home Guards who have been already recruited and are likely to start their training within a couple of months.

      In addition to manpower, protective gear and arms & ammunitions of a higher quality are also needed by the operational units. Therefore, Tripura Police procured 158 numbers of AK-47 Rifles, 1500 number of Bullet proof jackets last year and are in the process of procuring 100 numbers of AK-47 Rifles. 1500 number of bulletproof jackets. We expect to receive 72 nos. night vision devices, 90 numbers of day vision devices and 500 numbers of Patkas in the month of January itself.

      To promote e-governance a detailed plan has been chalked out and is likely to procure very shortly more than 100 computers for different units which will cover nearly all the officers down to the rank of Dy.SP and a few of the Police Stations. Once the computers are procured, we have to begin the work of networking  them through Local Area Network, Wide Area Network.
