POLICE HEAD QUARTERS
For the development and advancement of civilization and culture, the establishment of rule of law is a must. It is the Police, which enforces the law and order in the society and thus help protect the pace of development. The Police Head Quarters was established in the year 1965. It was then headed by an Inspector General of Police. The first Inspector General of Police was Sri R.N. Sheopoory, IPS from 1965 to 1967. On 2nd February 1987, Sri H.C. Jatav, IPS joined as the first Director General of Police, Tripura. The State is divided into 8 Districts comprising 25 Police sub-divisions, 71 Police Stations and 34 Police Out Posts. The organisation as of now have 5 Inspector Generals of Police, 3 DIGsP and Superintendents / Commandants of various units. There are 12 Battalions of Tripura State Rifles of which 9 are India Reserve Battalions.
SHRI K. NAGARAJ, IPS

Shri K. Nagaraj joined the Indian Police Service in 1983 and was allotted to Tripura. After initial training, he joined as SDPO, Khowai during August 1985. He later served as Addl.SP(Rural) West, SP(North) and Commandant IInd TAP Bn in Tripura. From March. 1989 to June 1991 he served the Government of Andhra Pradesh on inter-state deputation where he worked as SP (Warrangal District) and as SP (CID). During the years 1991-1995, he was posted as Principal Central Detective School, Hyderabad, an institution which imparts training in use of scientific methods in crime investigation. On return to Tripura, during September 1997 to January 2001, he worked as DIG(AP & OPS), DIG(Northern Range) and DIG Tripura Range. In February 2001, he proceeded on Central Deputation to the CRPF Wherein he worked as DIG CRPF at Bangalore and Hyderabad. In 2006, he returned to Tripura and was posted as IGP(AP & OPS). From February, 2010 to April 2012 he worked as IGP(Law & Order), Tripura. During this period, Tripura Police could consolidate their control over insurgency and overall crime in the state.A well received Community Policing initiative “PRAYAAS” was also launched during January, 2011. He has also worked as IGP(Trg), IGP(Admn) and IGP(Intelligence). With effect from 01.07.2014, Shri Nagaraj has assumed the charge of Director General of Police, Tripura. Shri Nagaraj has post Graduate Degrees in Business Administration and English Literature. He is also a Law Graduate.
Shri Saurabh Tripathi, IPS
Inspector General of Police (administration)
During the period September 2004 to August 2006 Shri Tripathi worked as Superintendent of Police, Anti Corruption Bureau, Jabalpur Branch, the oldest Branch of CBI in India Subsequently he worked as Superintendent of Police, CBI (AC-III) during the period of August, 2006 to March, 2010. He also worked as AIGP (Policy) and Dy.IGP (Policy) in the CBI during the period from April, 2010 to August, 2012.
On repatriation of central deputation Shri Saurabh Tripathi was posted as Dy. Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) (Head Quarters at Kumarghat). Subsequently, he was transferred and posted as Dy. Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) and also held additional charge of DIGP (Northern Range) during the period from April, 2013 to May, 2014. During the month of July, 2014 Shri Saurabh Tripathi was transferred and posted as Dy. Inspector General of Police (Head Quarters) with additional charge of Dy. Inspector General of Police (CID). Shri Saurabh Tripathi was promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police in February' 2015 and now he is posted as Inspector General of Police (Administration) with additional charge of Inspector General of Police (intelligence).
Shri Saurabh Tripathi is an Engineering Graduate from MNNIT, Allahabad and Post Graduate of Industrial Engineering (NITIE, Mumbai).
